Two Lone Swordmen - Still My World (LP)
Previously only released in Japan, 'Still My World' was originally cobbled together for an Emigliano Zegna campaign, and catches Andrew Weatherall and Keith Tenniswood in a transitionary phase, between the pulverized, electroid 'Tiny Reminders' and the rockabilly-slanted 'From the Double Gone Chapel'.
Back in 2003, Weatherall was approached by Emigliano Zegna to provide some music for their Japanese launch. He raided his archive, snatching a bunch of in-progress demos that he'd been working on with Tenniswood and gave them a spit 'n polish before turning his attention to the task in hand - writing 'From the Double Gone Chapel'. So for anyone who wasn't convinced by that album's sharp left turn, 'Still My World' is a chance to hear the bridging concepts, and although it's a loose set, it's packed with goodies that hark back to the duo's wooziest early material.
'Compulsion' is an icy stumble that sounds as if it could have dropped off the back of the duo's masterpiece 'Stay Down', laced with ratcheting electronics and 'Artificial Intelligence'-standard euphoric pads, and 'From Behind Bandages' is a meditative beatless cut filled with sinkhole bleeps and twitchy drones. There's plenty of taut, jazzy moments too, like the library music-alike weepie 'Still My World' and the moody 'Arturo's Attitude'. And if you wanna hear the roots of 2LS's next gear, check the psych-funk loosie 'And Then The Walls Fell' and the dubbed-out 'Live From Rotten Towers'.
